The University of Louisville’s men’s golf team, led by head coach Ryan Blagg, secured their first tournament win of the season at the Aggie Invitational held at the Traditions Golf Course. The Cardinals went wire-to-wire, with junior Max Kennedy claiming individual medalist honors.

Kennedy’s Impressive Performance

Kennedy shot a 7-under-par for the program’s first individual tournament win since John Murphy won two events during the 2019-20 campaign. With a 71.15 stroke average entering the event, Kennedy continued to impress, shooting 71-66-72=209 over two days. This marked his fifth-straight top-10 finish, with 15 birdies recorded over the 54 holes of the tournament.

Teammate Jiri Zuska also had a strong showing, tying for second place with LSU’s Luke Haskew, each finishing 6-under-par. After opening play with a 3-over-par, Zuska played the next two rounds at 9-under-par, with a second-round score of 65, tied for the best round of the season.

Cardinals’ Collective Victory

The Cardinals’ collective victory is their first since winning the Bearcat Invitational during the 2019-20 season. They held off host Texas A&M, shooting a 12-over-par over the two-day event, and winning by three strokes with an 8-over-par 296. For the two days, the Cardinals shot 281-275-296=852.

Blagg praised the team, saying, “This was a big win for us. They played very disciplined golf this week and beat a great field as well as a top 15 team on their home course.” He also commended Kennedy for his hard work and commitment.

Other Top Performances

Three players from the Cardinals finished in the top 10, with Sebastian Moss tying for sixth place after firing a 5-under-par 211. Mads Roddick tied for 50th with an 8-over-par 224, while Walker Franklin tied for 70th.

The Cardinals will return to action at the ACC Championship at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C., on April 21-24. With their recent victory, the team will look to carry their momentum into the championship and secure another impressive finish.
