Murray State Softball Clinches Series at Indiana State with a 4-3 Victory

Murray State softball team emerged victorious in a closely contested game against Indiana State on Sunday, winning 4-3 and clinching the series. The Racers and Sycamores battled through seven innings, with Indiana State taking an early lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the first.

The Racers wasted no time in responding, as Lindsey Carroll hit an RBI single with loaded bases in the top of the third, allowing Erin Lackey to score and tie the game. In the following at-bat, Taylor Jackson delivered a three-run home run, putting the Racers ahead with a 4-1 lead. Indiana State managed a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, bringing the score to 4-3 as the game entered the final inning.

Hannah James stepped up to the mound in the bottom of the seventh after Murray State failed to score at the top. James struck out Cassie Thomerson swinging, sealing the game and the series victory for the Racers.

With this win, the Racers now hold a 14-6 conference record and are tied for third place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. Taylor Jackson’s home run marks her second of the season, with her first being against Abilene Christian in March. Jenna Veber secured the win, improving her season record to 12-6. Hannah James earned her fifth save of the season, setting a new career high for saves in a single season. Jackson has now recorded a hit in her last six games.

Looking ahead, the Racers will host the Bruins in a midweek MVC showdown on Wednesday.
