Newcomer Sammi Miller went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and Melissa Jacobsen went 2-for-3 to aid the Eastern Kentucky University softball team to a game two win over the University of Louisville, 5-4, to open the fall season Sunday at Gertrude Hood Field. The Colonels fell 5-0 in game one.
The Cardinals scored in the top frame of the first inning to go up 1-0 in the second game. They tacked on two more in the third to extend the lead 3-0.
Jacobsen responded with a leadoff single to start the bottom stanza. Emily Corbitt followed with a walk. EKU plated one off of a wild pitch and Miller placed one at second to score another and draw within one, 3-2.
The Colonels added to the total in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to take the contest, 5-4.
EKU out-hit Louisville 6-to-5 and committed two less errors (4-to-2).
The Colonels will travel to Lexington on September 23 to take on the Wildcats in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
