The University of Louisville volleyball team will host No. 20-ranked Kentucky and Chattanooga in a weekend homestand at Cardinal Arena. The Cardinals will face the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. and the Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.

The Cardinals are coming off a 2-1 performance at the Stacey Clark Classic hosted by Purdue to move to 6-3 on the season. Melanie McHenry and Megan Sloan were both named to the All-Stacey Clark Classic team for their outstanding performances on the court. Louisville began the tournament by beating Lipscomb  3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 28-30, 25-23). The Cardinals then proceeded to sweep Xavier 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-14), before falling to host Purdue in five sets, 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 26-28, 25-13, 10-15).

McHenry continues to lead the Cardinals in kills, totaling 111 through nine matches. Molly Sauer has continued to be a staple for the Cardinals’ defense, accumulating 144 digs so far on the season.

 The No. 20-ranked Wildcats make their way to Louisville with a 4-4 record on the 2018 season. Kentucky took home three wins at the Bluegrass Battle Tournament against College of Charleston, 3-1 (25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 25-19), Dayton, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-16), and Kansas, 3-2 (16-25, 15-25, 25-17, 25-11, 15-8). The Cats then hit the road where they suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 6-ranked Texas (27-25, 21-25, 18-25, 16-25) before getting a 3-1 win over Texas State (22-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21), where the Wildcats posted their best hitting clip of the season (.333).

Kentucky is led on the court by junior outside hitter Leah Edmond, who leads the offense with 147 kills. Sophomore libero Gabby Curry bolsters the defense with 129 digs. Brooke Morgan’s .409 hitting percentage is the best on the team.

Chattanooga Chattanooga visits the Cardinals with an overall record of 4-6. The Mocs are coming off three consecutive 3-0 losses to Western Kentucky (14-25, 21-25, 24-26), Miami (OH) (20-25, 21-25, 18-25),  and Notre Dame (10-25, 18-25, 22-25) at the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by WKU. Earlier in the season, Chattanooga won all three matches of their home tournament, the Chattanooga Classic. The Mocs defeated UNC Asheville 3-1 (16-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16), Tennessee State 3-1 (25-12, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20), and North Alabama 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12).

The Mocs are led by junior middle blocker Dani Szczepanski has a team-top 81 kills for the Mocs, along with a team-leading 21 blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist and libero Megan Kaufman has accumulated 132 digs to lead the defense. Louisville, Ky. native Miranda Elpers has proved to be a factor for the Mocs, and is currently second on the team in both kills and digs, with 72 and 89 respectively.

UofL will be handing out pom-poms for the match with Kentucky and the match has been designated as a Red Out
