The Murray State women’s golf team placed third and Linette Holmsykke narrowly missed taking the medalist title at the Payne Stewart Memorial at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Missouri.
The Racers carded team scores of 294-298-294 for a spot in third place at 886, ahead of fourth place Wichita State (891) and fifth place Oral Roberts (897). Memphis and UTEP finished first and second with scores of 860 and 873.
Murray State senior Linette Holmslykke carded scores of 69-71-72 for a 4-under-par total of 212 which got her into a playoff with Memphis’ Sydney Colwell who had scores of 70-71-71=212. Each player made par at the 18th hole, but on the second time through the same hole, Holmslykke made bogey and Colwell made par for the win.
Other scores for the Racers and standings saw Jane Watts place 18th on rounds of 73-74-77=224 while Raeshya Surendran placed 25th on scores of 76-78-72=226. Sarah McDowell had scores of 81-75-73=229 for a spot in 31st place with Taylor Church placing 63rd on rounds of 76-80-83=239.
MSU’s Lucila Puente Rodiguez de Austria played the event as an individual and carded scores of 75-77-75=227 for a spot in 27th place overall and fourth among the 23 solo players.
The rest of the top-10 included Missouri State (908), Arkansas State (911), Southern Illinois (913), Oklahoma City (929) and Omaha (933).
Twin Oaks Country Club played to a par-71 and a length of 6,001 yards.
Net up for the Racers is the Chris Banister Classic (Sept. 23-25) hosted by Jacksonville State at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama.
