Claire Chaussee, Aiko Jones, and Amaya Tillman had seven kills each as the No. 24 University of Louisville swept Tennessee Tech 25-14, 25-27, 25-15 in the first match of the Fleur De Lis Tournament at L&N Credit Union Arena.
UofL (3-1) hit .196% for the match with 30 aces, 10 blocks, and 41 digs. Piper Roe finished the game with five blocks and libero Alexis Hamilton tallied a season-high seven aces. Tennessee Tech hit a chilly -.054 with three aces and six blocks. The Golden Eagles were led by Ali Verzani’s six kills.
The Cardinals finished the first game with 12 kills led by Aiko Jones’ four. Tennessee Tech kept the game close until Louisville went on a 10-2 run to finish off the Golden Eagles 25-14. Louisville forced Tennessee Tech to hit only .036 for the first set.
In the second game, the Golden Eagles kept it close until the 8-8 mark when the Cardinals pulled away with a 5-0 run led by kills from Aiko Jones, Claire Chaussee, and Emily Scott to pull to a 13-8 lead. After pulling away, a kill by Chaussee gave Louisville the 25-17 win.
In the third set, the Cardinals trailed the Golden Eagles 9-6 to start the set and then evened the score at 11-11. Louisville finished out the game by going on an 8-2 run to beat Tennessee Tech 25-15.
Up next for the Cardinals, they host Western Kentucky in the Fleur De Lis Tournament on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
