Louisville MSOC Squares Off with Florida Gulf Coast Monday

The University of Louisville men’s soccer team finishes off a two-match road swing on Monday evening at Florida Gulf Coast. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET in Fort Myers, Fla., and will be televised on Facebook Live.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS

Louisville is coming off a 1-1 draw at Boston College on Friday night. Nico Diaz notched his first goal of the season to give the Cards a 1-0 lead late in the first half. However, the Eagles tied the match in the 65th minute and ultimately secured the draw.

SERIES HISTORY

Monday’s match will be the just the second time the two program’s have met and the first in Fort Myers. Louisville defeated Florida Gulf Coast 2-1 on Oct. 14, 2014 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.

In the previous matchup with FGCU, Ben Strong and Tim Kubel netted first half goals to give the Cards a 2-1 lead at halftime. Joachim Ball and the Louisville defense kept the Eagles out of the net in the second half to finish off the win.

LOUISVILLE FRESHMEN MAKING EARLY IMPACT IN 2022

John Michael Hayden and the Louisville coaching staff added another top 25 recruiting class this summer. The group included eight freshmen, several of which have already seen extensive playing time through three matches.

Quinton Elliot and Filip Fredhall have started each of the first six matches at outside back, while Damien Barker John and Konstantinos Georgallides have combined to start all six matches on the right wing.

Georgallides is the team leader with six points, while Barker John is tied for fourth with four. Georgallides scored the tying goal against Seattle and later assisted on the game-winner.

LOUISVILLE SPREADING THE WEALTH OFFENSIVELY

The Cardinals have found the net 12 times through the first six matches and the offensive output has come from a multitude of players.

Through six matches, nine different Cardinals have scored and 12 have recorded either a goal or an assist.

Seventeen different Cardinals registered at least one point during the 2021 season.
