In a field that included 54 competitors Erik Lindwall finished first after a final round 2-under par and the Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team placed third at the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport & FGCU Classic on Monday.
The Soderkoping, Sweden native opened the tournament with rounds of 72 and 73 before firing a final round 70 to finish 1-under (215) for the tournament and pull away from Pontus Nyholm of Campbell (217).
As a team, EKU shot rounds of 308, 301 and 300 for a total of 909 (+45). The Colonels finished ahead of teams such as host Florida Golf Coast (+54) and Creighton (+104).
No. 46 Campbell (882) won the event by four shots over UT Arlington (886). Eastern Kentucky was nine shots better than fourth place FGCU.
The 9-team field competed at the par-72, 6,697-yard Old Corkscrew Golf Club.
Billy Basham (227) tied for 13th and Willis Gaer (233) finished 24th. Edvin Lindgren (237) finished tied for 33rd and Andreas Nielsen (238) tied for 37th. The individual Kyle Jury (235) finished tied for 30th.
That wraps up the fall portion of the schedule for the EKU men’s golf team. They will return to the links March 8-10, when they travel to Pinehurst, North Carolina to play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
