After battling rain for two days, the Murray State Racers came home with a seventh place finish at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at GreyStone Golf Course in Dickson, Tennessee, the former site of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship from 2010-13.
With a full day of rain keeping the field of 10 teams off the course until late Monday, the event carried on Tuesday morning by finishing up the first round and then playing a final 18 holes, thus cutting the 54-hole event to 36.
Returning from injury that caused him to miss most of last spring and all of the summer, MSU junior Avery Edwards had his best showing of the season with a spot in ninth place on scores of 70-72=142, while Connor Coombs placed 17th on rounds of 74-70=144. Other MSU scores and finishes included Austin Knight in 32nd place on scores of 74-74=148 and Gabe Wheeler in 42nd place on rounds of 77-76=153.
MSU had three individuals in the event with Justin Wendling in 23rd place on scores of 76-69=145 and Quinn Eaton in 46th place after scores of 76-76=152 and James Boone in 65thplace on scores of 84-75=159.
The Racers carded scores of 295-289=584 to place seventh, just one shot from sixth place UT Martin (583) and behind Austin Peay (573), Binghampton (572) and Trevecca (571). Belmont was the winner at 567, ahead of runner-up SIUE at 569.
The fall portion of the 2018-19 season is in the books for the Racers as they posted a best-finish of second place a week ago the UTM Skyhawk Classic. The Racers get back on the course to start the spring season (Feb. 23-25) at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Arizona at Palm Valley GC.
