The Kentucky men’s tennis team is set to take to the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, for the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Ohio Valley Men’s Regional Championships. Play will begin Thursday, October 11 and conclude on Monday, October 15.
All Wildcats will be in action in the same event for the first time during the 2018 fall season. UK is among 128-individual singles draw and a 64-team doubles draw. There will be 20 other Division I men’s programs represented at this season’s regionals: Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Butler, Chattanooga, Dayton, ETSU, IUPUI, Indiana, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, MTSU, Northern Kentucky, Purdue, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt, Wright State, Xavier.
Matches will be held at the Goodfriend Tennis Center (Thursday-Monday), Knoxville Racquet Club (Thursday-Saturday), and Barksdale Tennis Stadium (consolation rounds, Friday-Monday).
UK enters the championships with a pair of rankings in the ITA Preseason Poll with Enzo Wallart ranked in the top-100 singles at No. 76, while Cesar Bourgois and Arthur Chen are notched at No. 48.
So far this fall, the Wildcats have picked up two ranked singles wins – six in total – and three doubles wins at the UVA Masters in their first fall event. Theo McDonald picked up one of the ranked wins in addition to a three-set comeback while Wallart nabbed the other, defeating the No. 71- and 43-ranked singles, respectively. Kento Yamado posted two wins of his own while Bourgois grabbed a singles win. Wallart and McDonald teamed up for a 6-3 win over Tulane and a dominant 6-0 win over the UVA pairing. UK saw its final doubles win of the tournament after a victory from Yamada and Bourgois.
