UofL MTEN & Bellarmine team to host ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship this wknd

The University of Louisville along with Bellarmine University will serve as co-hosts for the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional Championships this weekend, marking the first time the event has been held in Louisville.
 
The 128-player singles and 64-team doubles tournament runs Thursday through Monday (Oct. 13-17). Main draw matches and consolation matches will be played at Louisville’s Bass-Rudd Tennis Center and Bellarmine’s Eddie Weber Tennis Complex on Thursday and Friday with Louisville’s Bass-Rudd Tennis Center serving as the host site Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The tournament will start Thursday at 9 a.m. with doubles. Singles action will follow starting at 11 a.m.
 
The Ohio Valley Regional features 23 teams from around the region including:  Austin Peay, Ball State, Bellarmine, Belmont, Butler, Chattanooga, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, Indiana, IUPUI, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Northern Kentucky, Purdue, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt and Xavier.

“We are excited and proud to host the ITA Ohio Valley Regional along with Bellarmine,” said UofL head Coach Rodrigo da Silva. “This is the first time this event has taken place in Louisville and I think it will be an exciting time for fans to watch some of the best college players in the region and the nation compete for the opportunity to reach the fall national championships.”
 
The singles and doubles finalists from this regional event will earn an automatic berth to the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships which will take place November 2-6, 2022, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California.
 
Admission is free throughout the event. For matches held at UofL, spectator parking will be located along Floyd Street or in the Floyd Street Parking Garage (across from the Don Fightmaster Playground) for a $5 fee. Information for the Bellarmine site is located here.
 
About Louisville Men’s Tennis
• Etienne Donnet, Matthew Fung, Sergio Hernandez, Will Mayew, David Mizrahi, Natan Rodrigues, Fabien Salle, Andre’ Steinbach and Alex Wesbrooks are set to take the court this weekend.
 
• The Cardinals’ roster includes three players in the ITA preseason rankings. Fabien Salle enters the season ranked No. 84, while Sergio Hernandez is slotted at No. 111 in the top-125 singles rankings. The duo of Salle and Natan Rodrigues land inside the doubles top-60 at No. 48.
 
• Louisville returns four players from last year’s team which finished the season with an 19-9 overall record and an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament. The Cards reached the semifinals of the ACC Championship for the first time in program history after earning the No. 4 seed with a program-best nine wins in conference play.  As a team, the Cardinals appeared in the ITA team rankings 11 times, with a season-high ranking of 23.
 
• UofL has had recent success in the ITA Valley Regional with Tin Chen winning the singles title in 2019 and Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn won the championship in 2017. They become the second Louisville doubles team to win the Ohio Valley Regional doubles title after Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk won in 2010.
