The University of Louisville men’s tennis team tallied 10 wins, advancing two doubles teams to the semifinals and four players to singles quarterfinals on day three of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional Championship at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Sunday’s doubles semifinals will start at 9:30 a.m. with singles quarterfinals slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The day started with the doubles round of 16 which saw three Louisville pairs move to the quarterfinals. David Mizrahi and Will Mayew edged Vanderbilt’s Siim Troost and Jeremie Casabon 8-7(3). Matthew Fung and Sergio Hernandez topped Lipscomb’s Carlos Salas Tulla and Luka Stojanovic 8-1. No. 48 Natan Rodrigues and Fabien Salle registered an 8-3 win over Memphis’ Conor Gannon and Harry Rock.
In quarterfinals, Mizrahi and Mayew edged teammates Fung and Hernandez 8-7 (5) while Rodrigues and Salle defeated Indiana’s Michael Andre and Ekansh and Kumar 8-5.
In Sunday’s 12 p.m. semifinal matchups, Mizrahi and Mayew will take on Butler’s Thomas Brennan and Alvaro Huete and Rodrigues and Salle will face Kentucky’s Alexandre and JJ Mercer.
The Cards picked up four more wins in the singles round of 16. Rodrigues emerged victorious over Fung 6-2, 7-5 in another all-Louisville matchup. Hernandez, No. 111 in the ITA singles rankings beat Conor Gannon of Memphis 6-1, 7-6(3). No 84 Salle cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Nick Nienhaus. Donnet closed out main draw play with a 7-6(1), 6-2 win over Kentucky’s Charlelie Cosnet.
All four Louisville players will compete in Sunday’s main draw quarterfinals which are slated to start at 12:30 p.m. Rodrigues will meet up with ETSU’s Dmitri Badra, Hernandez will face Memphis’ Pablo Alemany, Salle will take on Purdue’s Daniel Labrador and Donnet will play ETSU’s Thiago Pernas.
In the singles consolation draw, Mayew defeated ETSU’s Pedro Cressoni 7-5, 6-3 before falling 7-6(4), 6-4 to Ball State’s Nathaniel Webster.
