Vilma Efraimsson, who has spent the past two seasons at Barton Community College in Kansas, recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at Eastern Kentucky University, becoming the first recruit for new head coach Mandy Moore.
Moore took over the reins of the program in August. Efraimsson will join the program in the fall of 2019.
Efraimsson is having an outstanding sophomore season at Barton CC. The Ulricehams, Sweden native has finished in the top-10 in all five events, including one first place, two second place performances and a tie for fourth. She captured individual medalist honors at the Kansas Wesleyan Fall Invitational with consecutive rounds of 74.
“We are very excited to welcome Vilma to the team,” said Moore. “She will come to EKU with a lot of tournament experience. She has a passion for the game and knows how to win. I expect her to make an immediate impact next year.”
Her play this fall has helped the Cougars win four of their five events and reach a No. 4 national ranking.
As a freshman at Barton, Efraimsson picked up two individual wins and a tie for first. On the junior golf level, Efraimsson posted two wins and seven other top-5 finishes on the Swedish Junior Tour.
EKU will return to action on Feb. 16-17 at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational hosted by Mercer University in Greensboro, Georgia.
