The Game

After suffering its first defeat of the season last week at Butler, the Murray State women’s basketball team will look to bounce back Tuesday at home against Lipscomb. Tipoff from CFSB Center is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Last Time Out

The Racers fell for the first time in the 2018-19 season, 86-65, to Big East member Butler Tuesday. The Racers held their own with Butler early in the game by jumping out to a 12-4 lead, however, that would quickly vanish as the Bulldogs led 24-19 at the end of the first. From there, the Racers struggled to find footing, while the Bulldogs thrived by outscoring the Racers 48-29 over the next two quarters to build what would be an insurmountable lead. Lex Mayes and Evelyn Adebayo led the Racers on the night with 15 points each. Adebayo fell one rebound shy of her third straight double-double, but did lead the Racers with nine boards. Janika Griffith-Wallace added 11 points and five rebounds to the effort, while Macey Turley had 10 points and five assists.

The Lipscomb Series
Tuesday will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Murray State leading 6-4 and 4-1 at the CFSB Center. After dropping the initial meeting between the two teams in 2001 in Murray, the Racers have won each of the last four games in the series at the CFSB Center.

Scouting The Lady Bisons

Lipscomb is 2-2 on the year with wins over Tennessee State and Alabama A&M and losses to Clemson and Jacksonville State. The Racers are the third of eight OVC teams the Lady Bisons will face in non-conference action this season. Taylor Clark leads the way for the Lady Bisons with team-highs of 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while Emily Kmec and Lauren Rau followed at 8.5 and 8.0 points, respectively.

A Win Tuesday Would…

Give the Racers their first three-game win-streak at home since 2016-17 when they posted wins over MacMurray, Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois (Dec. 12 -Jan. 11).

Although she did came up just short of her third straight double-double against Butler, Evelyn Adebayo was named as the OVC Newcomer of the Week, giving the Racers a weekly winner in each of the first two weeks of the season. Macey Turley was the first winner for Murray State, taking home freshman honors last week.

Turnover Trouble

The Racers committed a season-high 23 turnovers against Butler, leading directly to 27 points for the Bulldogs. The game also marked the first-time this year that MSU had finished a game with more turnovers than assists (11).

OK, What’s Next?

Murray State will return to the road and travel to Jonesboro to take on the Red Wolves of Arkansas State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
