The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2016 Academic Awards yesterday evening, with Kentucky women’s tennis garnering honors on both the individual and team level.
Six Wildcats were tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes, including Mami Adachi, Morgan Chumney, Kate Lanier, Kirsten Lewis, Akvilė Paražinskaitė and Aldila Sutjiadi. To earn the distinction, a player must be a varsity letter winner with a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
Adachi, Chumney and Paražinskaitė are first-time honorees, while Lanier garnered her second ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction and both Lewis and Sutjiadi picked up their third career honor.
Kentucky’s six honorees stand near the top of the Southeastern Conference, tied with Ole Miss and bested by only South Carolina’s seven honored students.
The team was also recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team for being a program with a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above.
In total, more than 4,200 scholar-athletes were recognized across all division, both male and female, along with over 700 all-academic teams.
