Former University of Kentucky women’s basketball guard Carly Ormerod Bell, who played in 106 career games for the Wildcats, will be inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday at the State Theater in Elizabethtown, Ky., for her impressive high school career.
The KHSBHF is dedicated to promoting and educating the public about the culture, tradition and rich heritage of Kentucky high school basketball. It honors and provides a fitting tribute to former players and coaches, while preserving and displaying historical information and memorabilia associated with the game. Ormerod Bell will enter the KHSBHF with her former high school head coach Donna Moir. The two are the only two females in the 2016 class.
At the time her high school career ended, Ormerod Bell was the only player to be named most valuable player at the state tournament as a freshman and the only player to earn MVP honors at the event twice. The 2005 Kentucky Miss Basketball averaged 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 3.7 assists as a senior at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Ky., where she helped the school win three consecutive state championships from 2002 through 2004. In her four-year career, she scored 1,789 points and at the time of graduation was the school’s all-time assists leader with 534. A two-time honorable mention All-America honoree by Street & Smith magazine in high school, Ormerod Bell was a first-team all-state selection by the Louisville Courier-Journal, Lexington Herald Leader and Associated Press in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
During her time at Kentucky, Ormerod Bell was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, was a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week, four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, was the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, named Miss Wildcat at the 2009 Catspy Awards and a member of the Frank G. Ham Society of Character. The guard started 89 of 106 career games and averaged 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.96 assists per game during her four-year career. Ormerod Bell graduated in May 2008 with a degree in biology. At the time of graduation, she ranked ninth on UK’s career assists per game list, while she totaled 101 career 3-pointers made, which ranked her eighth on UK’s career list.
