UK WSOC Outshoots Ole Miss 19-3, Drops Heartbreaker in Double OT

Ole Miss answered Kentucky’s 79th-minute opening goal five minutes later and then scored a golden goal two minutes into the second overtime frame to squeak out a 2-1 double-overtime road win at the Wendell and Vickie Bell Soccer Complex on Saturday night.
Kentucky dominated just about everything in the match including the run of play for the entirety of the second half, most quality scoring changes, and outshooting the Rebels 19-3 overall and 17-1 in regulation – with Ole Miss’ only shot of regulation coming in the 85th minute – the goal.
Kentucky got on the board in the 79th minute thanks to a nifty backheel from junior Tanya Samarzich off a set piece from just outside the box to the left. Sophomore Sophie Babo served in a low, driving ball with pace into the maylay in the box and Samarzich took her right heel and redirected it in front of the goal to score her team-leading seventh of the season.
Ole Miss responded less than five minutes later, scoring from the back post off service from the top of the box.
Kentucky had a chance to win the match in the dying seconds of the first overtime, but Foster Ignoffo’s effort rolled just wide of the goal mouth and sent the match into the second extra time frame.
Ole Miss scored the match winner in the 102nd minute from Alley Houghton in her first goal of the season off a set piece from the same area UK scored its goal in the second half.
The win for Ole Miss moves the Rebels to 7-6 overall and 1-4 in the Southeastern Conference. Kentucky falls to 4-6-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the SEC. UK is back in action on Thursday night at the Bell Soccer Complex vs. No. 19 Auburn at 7:30 p.m. ET.
