Louisville’s Andrea Cottrell was named CollegeSwimming Division I Women’s Swimmer-of-the-Week for the Week of October 10-16. The reigning ACC Champion in the 100 breaststroke captured her signature event along with the 200 breaststroke at the SMU Classic where the Cardinals were edged by Michigan by one point.
Cottrell was also named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming Performers of the Week. Cottrell, who won ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors three times last season, had four first-place finishes this past weekend at the SMU Classic. No. 17 Louisville placed second behind No. 3 Michigan, edging out ranked opponents No. 4 USC and No. 19 UCLA. Cottrell swept the breaststroke, placing first in both the 100 (59.58) and 200 (2:08.74). She also swam the second leg in the 200 medley relay, whose time of 1:38.09 was a meet record. The senior swam the second leg of the first-place 400 medley relay as well with a 59.37 split helping the Cards to a time of 3:33.44
Her time in the 100-breaststroke is the third fastest in NCAA Division I thus far in the season. Her 200-breast mark is second fastest in Division I.
