University of Louisville head swimming coach Arthur Albiero has been named the head coach for Team USA for the for December’s FINA World Championships (25m) in Windsor, Canada, USA Swimming announced today. Ten swimmers from the 2016 United States Olympic Team highlight Team USA’s 35-member roster will be among the competitors.
The six-day meet will be held Dec. 6-11 at the WFCU Centre.
Leading an eight-member coaching staff for Team USA will be women’s head coach Arthur Albiero of Louisville and men’s head coach Yuri Suguiyama of California Aquatics. A complete roster can be found online at usaswimming.org.
The University of Louisville’s Olympic gold medallist Kelsi Worrell will be among the 10 Olympians slated to compete along with fellow medallist Lilly King, Cody Miller, Josh Prenot, Leah Smith.
Additional 2016 Olympians on the roster include Molly Hannis Amanda Weir, Jacob Pebley, Blake Pieroni, and Tom Shields. Like Worrell, Pieroni, Shields, and Weir were relay medalists in Rio.
Also swimming for Team USA meet is UofL swimmer Mallory Comerford, who will swim the 200 free individually at SC Worlds. She has already posted an A-cut time and is second in Division I in this event.
Lilly King and Ella Eastin are slated to swim a team-high four individual events, with King expected in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter breaststroke, as well as the 100m individual medley. Eastin will swim the 100m, 200m and 400m IM, as well as the 200m butterfly.
In total, 11 Americans are expected to swim three or more individual races in Windsor.
