The University of Louisville women’s basketball team is ranked fifth in the preseason Associated Press poll, which was announced Tuesday morning.

The Cardinals, who are ranked in the poll’s top 10 for the fifth time in the last six seasons, also have been selected in the top 10 in all other preseason publications. Since head coach Jeff Walz, entering his 10th season at the helm of the program, has taken over in 2007-08, Louisville has made 117 appearances in the poll – 13th-best nationally.

Louisville opens the 2016-17 campaign on Nov. 11 at UT Martin before playing their home opener on Nov. 13 against Belmont in the KFC Yum! Center. Of the Cardinals’ opponents, six are ranked in the top 25, with an additional six receiving votes that includes Belmont.

Led by reigning and preseason ACC Player of the Year, Myisha Hines-Allen headlines a team that returns all five starters and was picked to finish second in the league. The Cardinals also boast all-conference honorees Mariya Moore and Asia Durr and recruiting class that was tabbed sixth by espnW HoopGurlz.
