EKU MBB Goes On the Road To Face Rival Morehead State Saturday Night

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will make the short drive up I–64 to face in-state rival Morehead State on Saturday night. Tipoff from Johnson Arena is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

WHAT TO KNOW

– EKU (8-13, 1-5 OVC) nearly rallied in the final minute to stun host Murray State on Thursday night in Murray. The Colonels trailed by 10 with a minute to play, but pulled to within three, 82-79, with 15 seconds on the clock. The Racers knocked down 4-of-4 free throws in the waning seconds to stave off the rally and preserve the win.

– Freshman Asante Gist came off the bench to score a career-high 26 points on Thursday night at Murray State. He also dished out a team-best five assists. Gist ranks 11th in the OVC in scoring (14.8 points-per-game) and ninth in assists (3.8 assists-per-game).

– Nick Mayo scored 19 points on Thursday. Mayo has scored in double figures in every game this season, and he ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring (17.4 points-per-game). He also ranks 34th all-time in points at EKU (816) … with at least 10 games remaining in his sophomore season.

– Junior Zach Charles recorded his second double-double of the year at Murray State, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 boards. He leads EKU and ranks 13th in the OVC in rebounding (6.5 rebounds-per-game).

– Playing through an injury, senior Isaac McGlone came off the bench and went 5-of-5 from the field and scored 13 points on Thursday.

– McGlone ranks 10th all-time at EKU and is the OVC’s active career leader in steals (145).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

– Morehead State (8-11, 4-2 OVC) has won four of its last five games, including consecutive wins over Tennessee State and Austin Peay.

– Xavier Moon paces the Morehead State offense, averaging 15.7 points-per-game and 4.7 assists-per-game.

– This is the 187th all-time meeting between EKU and Morehead State. EKU leads the series, 108-78.
