Olivia Cason and Molly Skapik each shot a 4-over-par 148 to tie for second, but the University of Louisville women’s golf team fell to Kentucky in the third annual Battle of the Bluegrass State on Monday in Lake Mary, Fla.

Louisville registered a 30-over-par 606 at the Timacuan Golf Club, while Kentucky won with a 26-over-par 602.

It was the Cardinals’ first loss in the dual-match event after capturing the team titles in 2015 and 2016.

Cason rebounded from a 6-over-par 77 in the first round, with a 1-under-par 71 in the second. Skapik shot an even-par 72 in the opening round. Freshman Lauren Hartlage totaled an 11-over-par 155, and Louise Oxner secured a 12-over-par 156.

Shannon Gramley played as an individual and tied Hartlage for eighth.

Louisville returns to action and competes in its first spring tournament, when it plays in the Central District Invitational from Feb. 20-21 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The two-day competition is being held at the PGA National St. Lucia Trail Golf Club.
