Murray State Track & Field Posts Top Performances At Indiana

The Murray State women’s track & field squad competed over the weekend at the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University at the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Indiana.

From Friday night’s opening of the competition through late Saturday afternoon, the Racers racked up 13 top-5 finishes.

The IU event included teams from Arkansas State, Ball State, Bradley, Butler, Cincinnati, Dayton, Indiana State, Miami (OH), Saint Louis, Western Michigan and Xavier (OH).

Racer head coach Jenny Swieton was pleased with her team’s effort and results.

“This weekend showed that we are moving in the right direction,” Swieton said. “I am happy with how the team is shaping up and excited to see continued progress. Individually, I’m really impressed with Tia Weston’s win in the 600 and I’m super excited to see what she’s going do the rest of the season. Megan Smith and Rebecca Priddy are consistent racers and all the work they’ve put in shows in the results.”

The Racers’ busy indoor season continues Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29) at the Thundering Herd Invitational hosted by Marshall in Huntington, West Virginia.

Sprints
Tamdra Lawrence turned in a fourth place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.60. Dajiah White placed
11th.

In the 60m hurdles, MSU’s Jabreuna Brimlett placed third with a time of 8.65, while Taylor McCammon was fourth at 8.67.

MSU’s Lawrence and Norma Abdur-Rafia competed in the fast section of the 200m dash and placed fifth and seventh with times of 24.55 and 24.85.

Middle Distance
The Racers had a great showing in the 600m run. Tia West won the event with a time of 1:35, while D’Myia
Thornton was fifth at 1:37 and Hilary McAdam was ninth at 1:38.

MSU’s Abdur-Rafia was 16th in the 400m event with a time of 58.81, while Anna Curlin placed 18th at 59.27.

Distance
In the one-mile run, MSU’s Rebekah Priddy placed 16th with a time of 5:19.

Meagan Smith paced the Racers in the 3000m event with a time of 10:21, while Priddy was eighth at 10:27.

Caroline Grogan had MSU’s top finish in the 5000m run with a time of 19:01, which was good for a spot in 12th place.

Field Events
Aubrey Main had a sixth place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.58 meters.

Taylor McCammon placed eighth in the long jump with an effort of 5.56m, while it was a 10th place finish for Jabreuna Brimlett with a jump of 5.46m.

Destiny Carey was 17th in the shot put with a throw of 11.86m and Christina Meinhardt was 18th at 11.12m.

Relays
MSU placed ninth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:55. The team included Anna Curlin, Tamdra Lawrence, Jocelyn Payne and Norma Abdur-Rafia.

MSU placed sevent in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:47. The team included Tia Weston, D’Myia Thornton, Hilary McAdam and Mason Swenson.
