Six members of the Kentucky Wesleyan College men’s basketball team scored double digits on Wednesday evening as the Panthers posted a 109-75 win in a non-conference game against Oakland City University. Kentucky Wesleyan reached the century mark for the fifth time this season in their 15 th straight win to improve to 17-2 while the Mighty Oaks fall to 13-4.
Ken-Jah Bosley scored 14 points to move into fifth all-time with 1,912 points. The senior is now 88 points shy of becoming the fifth player in the history of Kentucky Wesleyan basketball to eclipse 2,000 career points. Bosley and fellow senior guard Jordan Jacks were both named to the Small College Basketball Bevo Francis Award Top 100
Watch list last week. The list currently sits at 100 players across NCAA Div. II, Div. III, NAIA Div. I, Div. II, USCAA and NCCAA, and will be narrowed down to 50 on Feb. 15.
The game was never tied as Kentucky Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead thanks to a three-pointer from Bosley and a jump shot from Charles Foster. The Mighty Oaks drained a pair of free throws moments later to pull within three, but that was the closest they would get to the Panthers. Kentucky Wesleyan utilized a 25-12 run to go up 32-16 midway through the first frame. The final seven points came from Sam Williams in a 52-second span.
The Panthers took a 58-33 lead to the break after scoring 16 points off of turnovers and 32 points in the paint. Kentucky Wesleyan boasted a 60.6 shooting percentage to Oakland City’s 46.9 in the second half en route to the 109-75 victory. Williams completed a three-point play at the 12:42 mark after being fouled on a lay up. Just under five minutes later, Shaakir Lindsey scored a lay up of his own to put the Panthers ahead by 31 points. Josh Derksen scored five points in less than a minute with a three-pointer and lay up on back to back possessions for Kentucky Wesleyan. The 34-point victory was capped off with a dunk from Michael Vigilance in the closing seconds.
For the second straight game, Sam Williams eclipsed the 20-point mark, this time with 23. The junior was two-for two from behind the arc, and 9-for- 13 in field goals. He also grabbed five rebounds and two steals. Jacks finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and one block, after shooting a perfect seven-for-seven from field goal range. Bosley contributed 14 points and five rebounds while Vigilance scored 13 points with one block and one steal.
Lindsey tabbed 11 points while dishing out three assists and two steals. Hatton was the sixth Panther to record double digits with 10 points and three steals. Charles Foster led the team with four assists while contributing nine points. Malek Harris grabbed a team-high four steals.
The Panthers return home on Saturday to host the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup set for 3:15 pm CT. Kentucky Wesleyan is the only unbeaten team in the G-MAC at 5-0 while the Trojans sit in fifth at 2-3 in conference play and 6-14 overall.
