Thomas More WBB Defeats Chatham, 94-32

The No. 5/6 Thomas More College women’s basketball team shots 53.3 percent from the field tonight (Tuesday, January 3, 2017) as it defeated Chatham University, 94-32, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Athletic & Fitness Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the PAC.

Thomas More out-scored Chatham 20-7 in the first quarter and 25-7 in the second quarter to build a 45-14 lead at halftime. The Saints extended the lead to 73-25 after three quarters as they cruised to the 94-32 victory.

The Saints out-scored Chatham 29-5 off turnovers, 14-0 on second chance points and the bench out-scored the Cougars’ bench 43-8.

All 12 Saints reached the scoring column, while five finished with double-digit scoring. Sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers with 14 points, while junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and first-year forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) each finished with 13 points, junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) added 11 points and first-year guard Taylor Jolly (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) finished with 10 points. Kiernan recorded a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while Schultz just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Owings led the team in assists with five, while Temple finished with four assists.

Thomas More returns to the hardwood on Thursday (January 5) when it travels to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College. The PAC game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
