The Kentucky track and field teams will hit the road for the first time in 2017 to compete in the 42nd annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational this weekend.
UK will be one of 35 teams competing Friday and Saturday at Nebraska’s Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The meet is scheduled to begin with the combined events at 12:30 p.m. ET on Friday. Field events start at 5:30 p.m., and the track events begin at 7 p.m. Saturdaycombined events restart at 10:30 a.m., while field and track events start at 12:30 p.m.
Ranked teams in the USTFCCCA poll at the Husker Invitational on the men’s side are No. 11 Kansas, No. 13 Stanford and No. 16 Texas. On the women’s side, No. 6 Texas, No. 8 Kentucky and No. 18 Kansas State lead the strong list of participants.
Kentucky last competed on the road at the Hoosier Open in December. After breaking for the winter holidays UK headlined two home meets in January.
Notably Jasmine Camacho-Quinn is entered in the 60-meter hurdles for the first time in 2017. She ran the No. 2-ranked time in the NCAA, a PR 7.98, in December.
Nick Anderson – currently ranked No. 7 in the NCAA – is scheduled to race against amongst others David Kendziera (Illinois) who has the same season-best 60m hurdles time: 7.77.
Javianne Oliver – currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA 60m (7.18) – could reprise the showdown that highlighted the McCravy Memorial in January against defending NCAA Champion Teahna Daniels (Texas).
This weekend’s Husker Invitational will serve as UK’s annual full-team road meet.
The entire Wildcats’ team, save for a lone distance runner who will compete at another meet in search of a fast field, will travel to Nebraska as a means of team building. Often during the indoor season – as will be the case next week – different athletes go to different meets depending on where the most competitive fields in each event are.
Kentucky will debut new uniforms this weekend, including a pink outfit on Saturday as February is National Cancer Prevention Month.
Saturday, Feb. 4 – the day UK will sport the pink uniforms – is World Cancer Day.
World Cancer Day unites the world’s population in the fight against cancer.
It aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action. UK plans to sport the pink uniforms as a means of heightening awareness for such a worthy cause.
