Yost’s Mile Highlights Big Wknd for EKU Track & Field

Junior Haley Yost highlighted the weekend for the Eastern Kentucky University track and field team by running a personal and OVC-best time in the women’s mile on Friday at the Iowa State Classic.

Yost finished third in her heat and 12th overall in the loaded race, clocking a time of 4:49.17. That time is the fifth-fastest indoor mile time in EKU history and the fastest since Lydia Kosgei ran 4:45.5 in 2012.

Fellow junior Charlotte Imer also competed at the Lied Recreation Center in Iowa, lowering her personal-best in the women’s 5,000 meters by three seconds, from 16:16.05 to 16:13.04. That time is currently the fastest in the OVC and the 24th fastest in the country.

Hoosier Hills

Five Colonels competed at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana on Friday.

Sophomore Tequan Claitt won the men’s high jump with a leap of 6-9.75.

Junior Jakob Abrahamsen, meanwhile, finished fourth in the fast section of the men’s mile with a 4:11.16. That time currently ranks No. 2 in the OVC.

Fellow junior Jamaine Coleman also delivered a notable performance, placing second in the fast section of the men’s 3,000 meters with a personal-best 8:14.0. That time also currently ranks No. 2 in the conference.

Chipotle Invitational

Junior sprinter Nigel Bethel took second in the finals of the men’s 60 meters in Huntington, West Virginia, clocking a personal-best 6.88. That time currently ranks No. 3 in the OVC.

Fellow junior Derayvon Thomas-Randle, meanwhile, placed second in the men’s 200 meters with a personal-best 22.19, which is currently fifth in the conference.

Freshman Nickson Rotich finished second in the men’s 800 meters with a personal-best 1:51.1, which is currently No. 3 in the OVC.

Junior Ciara Scott placed third in the women’s 3,000 meters with a personal-best 9:56.43, which puts her at No. 5 in conference.

On Friday night, junior Luisa Boschan took second in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 17:35.93. That time currently ranks No. 9 in the OVC.

The EKU track and field team has next weekend off in preparation for the OVC Indoor Championships, which take place February 24-25 in Charleston, Illinois.
