Eastern Kentucky University third baseman Johnkyria Alston was chosen as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday from its headquarters in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Over the weekend Alston helped EKU win 3-of-5 games at the 2017 Eagle Classic in Statesboro, Georgia. The junior led the team in home runs (3) and RBIs (9) while posting a .467 batting average on the weekend. Alston also tied for the team lead in runs (5). Two of her round-trippers came in the Presbyterian game, one being a 3-run bomb and the other a solo shot, giving her responsibility for all the runs scored by the Colonels.
The Haines City, Florida native also holds the third place spot in the league for home runs on the season (5).
The Colonels will be back in action for a twin-bill at Miami (OH) tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
