Louisville Track and Field Wins Six Events at the Tennessee Rust Buster

The University of Louisville track and field teams finished with six wins and 26 top five finishes on Saturday at the Tennessee Rust Buster.

“We were blessed with another terrific weekend of weather,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “Both squads were able to capitalize and produce many additional round one qualifying performances. We will send a small group to the Texas Relays next week but the majority of our team will enter a two week training phase leading into the Alabama Invitational.”

Mia Ross started the day with a win in the 1500 meters. Ross won the event with a personal best time of 4:27.92. She also finished second in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:13.65. Morgan Zacharias won her second straight in the pole vault. She won with a mark of 3.85m/12-07.50.

Raven Grant recorded her first win of the outdoor season in the women’s 100 meters. She won the event with a time of 11.64. Martice Moore also won his first event of the season in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.75. Moore also finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.57.

Alexis Gibbons won her first long jump of the outdoor season with a season best mark of 6.18m/20-03.50. Teammate Bre’Yana Wash finished second with a season best mark of 6.16m/20-02.50.

Kelsey Heyward won her first career event in the 400 meter hurdles. Heyward finished with a personal best time of 1:02.83 for the win. The Cardinals swept the top three places in the 400 meter hurdles. Alexis Murry finished second with a season time of 1:03.55 while Sydney Hill finished third with a time of 1:03.76.

Louisville will be back in action next weekend, March 20-April 1 at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
