Thomas More Men’s Tennis Blanks Mount St. Joseph, 9-0

The Thomas More College men’s tennis team shutout across-the-river rival Mount St. Joseph University, 9-0, tonight (Tuesday, March 28, 2017) in a non-conference match at the Mount Courts in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-4 and with the loss, the Lions fall to 2-2.

Thomas More opened with a 3-0 lead after doubles as it swept the matches. The No. 1 tandem of sophomore Derrick Kwok (Sugar Land, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) and first-year Michael Kenney (Carmel, Ind./Guerin Catholic) won 8-4, the No. 2 team of first-years Sheldon Preisler (San Diego, Caif./Boone County (Ky.)) and Cameron Shi (China/Scott (Ky.)) won 8-6 and the No. 3 pair of first-years Logan Daniels (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and Wesley Smith (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) won 8-3.

The Saints completed the shutout as they won all six singles matches. Kwok won 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1, Shi won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2, Kenney won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3, Preisler won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4, first-year year Brian Sears (Vine Grove, Ky./North Hardin) won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 and Smith won 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 6.

Thomas More returns to action on Friday (March 31) when it travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College at 8 p.m.
