Thomas More Softball Splits Doubleheader with Wittenberg

The Thomas More College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Wittenberg University today (Saturday, March 25, 2017) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Wittenberg won game one 6-1 and Thomas More won game two 3-1.

With the split, the Saints are 10-6 and the Tigers are 12-4.

In the first game, Wittenberg scored one run in the first, one in the second, two in the third and two in the sixth and held Thomas More to a run in the second for the 6-1 win. Sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) suffered the loss as she pitched seven innings giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits, while striking out seven. Six Saints had a hit in the game and were led by sophomore left fielder Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights), who was one-for-three with a run batted-in.

In the nightcap Thomas More scored one in the first, one in the second and one in the third and held Wittenberg to a run in the fifth for the 3-1 victory. Junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win as she pitched seven innings with one run (earned) on three hits and struck out four.

The Saints’ offense was led by junior second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with a run scored and junior center fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was two-for-three with a run scored.

The Saints’ doubleheader with Transylvania University scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed with no make-up date announced. Thomas More is now scheduled to return to action on April 1 when it travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader.
