The Kentucky men’s golf team is tied for eighth place, but has three individuals in red numbers heading into what should be an exciting second day of play at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. As a team, the Wildcats fired a 287 (-1) on the lengthy Bulls Bay Golf Club on Sunday.

About the lineup:

Stephen Stallings elevated his play from the recent weeks with a 1-under-par 71 in his first round. A course with a unique layout, Bulls Bay holds a front nine that features three par-5s – two within the first four holes. The senior birdied the second hole – the first par-5 – and eagled the par-5 fourth. He went on to shoot 3-under par on the front nine. Stallings had a few hiccups throughout the remainder of his round but played some good golf for his best round in the last two events.

Fred Allen Meyer, who bounced back as the second Wildcat to turn in a 1-under-par round, also birdied the second and eagled the fourth for an even finish on the side. The sophomore from Nicholasville, Kentucky, added three more birdies on the back nine.

Junior Tyler “Chip” McDaniel found himself under-par for the third consecutive round. The Manchester, Kentucky, native played the first seven holes at even par and finished off the front nine in strong fashion with two birdies. McDaniel birdied two of the first four holes on the back nine and ultimately ended up as the third Wildcat that shot 1-under par. Stallings, Meyer, and McDaniel are tied for 21st place.

Cooper Musselman shot a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 51st place while Lukas Euler shot 75 and is in 62nd. Matt Liston, competing as an individual, fired a 4-over par 76.

The Tournament Field:

UK’s best finish came in 2005 when it won the tournament with an 866 total. The Wildcats finished in 11th place last season.

Georgia State leads the tournament at 11-under par while No. 31 South Carolina is just two shots off the lead in second place. Second-ranked Virginia is in third place at 7-under par.
