WKU Softball Welcomes Murray State to Town

On Wednesday evening, WKU Softball will play host to Murray State in a single-game non-conference match up slated for a first pitch at 6 p.m. CT from the WKU Softball Complex. Both sides are taking the one-game break from conference play for the mid-week tilt.

The Hilltoppers own an even 18-18 record entering the mid-week contest along with an 8-7 record when playing on The Hill. The Red and White have also put together a 15-12 non-conference slate to this point in the 2017 campaign. Murray State, on the other hand, is 25-9 overall and 3-4 in an away setting. The Racers are 23-8 in games outside of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Murray State and WKU have each faced Samford, Western Illinois and Austin Peay. Both sides took down Samford and Western Illinois, while the Racers narrowly defeated Austin Peay, a team the Hilltoppers fell to early in the year.

In the all-time series between WKU and Murray State, the Hilltoppers have been victorious in seven of the nine meetings including a perfect 4-0 when playing in Bowling Green. Under head coach Amy Tudor, WKU has posted a 3-1 mark against the Racers. Murray State claimed the decision in the most recent meeting, which took place in Murray, Kentucky, but the Hilltoppers owned the six decisions prior to that.

WKU continues to lead the nation in free bases collected after getting hit by a pitch at the plate with 54. The Hilltoppers also rank in the top-25 of the NCAA with 30 home runs racked up on the season. With 16 runners thrown out attempting to steal, the Red and White come in at fifth in the nation in the category. The Hilltoppers have also turned 16 double plays, a mark that ranks 14th across the country currently

Following Wednesday’s contest, the Hilltoppers will continue their homestand with UAB coming to town for a cross-division Conference USA matchup. The sides will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CT, with the final game scheduled for a noon first pitch on Sunday.
