EKU Softball Welcomes No. 20 Kentucky to Gertrude Hood Field On Tuesday

The Eastern Kentucky University softball team kicks off an eight-game home stand on Tuesday when it welcomes No. 20 Kentucky to Gertrude Hood Field.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The Colonels (20-25) split a doubleheader at Southeast Missouri on Sunday, dropping game one, 2-1, before shutting out the Redhawks in game two, 2-1.

AT THE PLATE
– Junior Johnkyria Alston leads the country in doubles (19). The native of Haines City, Florida broke the EKU single-season doubles record with her 19th two-bagger of the season at SEMO on Sunday

– Sophomore Rachel Minogue went 4-for-6 in Sunday’s double-header, pushing her batting average to a conference-best .431 on the year.

– Senior Krislyn Campos finished game one on Sunday 2-for-4 with a run scored.

IN THE CIRCLE
– Senior Alex Sallberg tossed a solid 5.2 innings of relief at UT Martin on Saturday, allowing only one earned run on two hits.

– Freshman Mollie Paulick pitched 10.1 scoreless innings at SEMO on Sunday, while allowing only four hits. She has posted a team-best 2.51 ERA so far this spring.

THE OPPONENTS
– Kentucky (30-13) has won five of its last six contests.

– The Wildcats are led by Katie Reed at this dish, who is hitting .349. She has two long balls on the season.

– Kentucky has two hurlers tossing a 1.50 ERA or better in Meagan Prince (1.47) and Erin Rethlake (1.50).

– EKU is 7-21 all-time against Kentucky. The Colonels’ last win over the Wildcats came in 2006 in Lexington.
