The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association today announced its 2017 USILA/Nike All-American teams with Centre junior goaltender Sam Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) garnering Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Long becomes the first Centre men’s lacrosse All-American in program history as well as Centre’s fifth All-American of the 2016-17 season.

The top goalkeeper in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA), Long was a First Team all-conference selection in 2017. He averaged 13 saves per contest in 13 starts for the Colonels.

Long finished with 175 saves during his junior campaign, allowing just 112 goals allowed with a league-best 61.0 save percentage, a figure which is also good for fifth in NCAA Division III. He tallied at least 20 saves in four games on the year, including a career-high 23 saves against Berry in the SAA Tournament.
