Senior Trevor Troutman led the University of Louisville track and field team the first day of the NCAA East Preliminary on Thursday. Troutman was the first Cardinal to advance to the NCAA Championship in the men’s hammer. Sophomore Martice Moore advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s 400 meter hurdles.

“We saw some highlights in areas and in some areas where we fell short today,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “Martice was able to advance to the next round in 400m hurdles. He got off to a great start through the first six or seven hurdles but we’ll need him to finish a little stronger tomorrow night in order to advance to Eugene. Trevor Troutman was able to come up big in the men’s hammer throw with over a 10-foot personal best and new school record to earn a trip to the NCAA finals in two weeks. It was great to see him bounce back from a challenging ACC competition two weeks ago.”

Troutman finished 11th in the men’s hammer throw, advancing to the NCAA Championships. He threw a new personal best of 66.91m (219-6) to set a new school record for the Cardinals. He broke Brad Vivace’s record of 63.46m/208-2 set in 2015.

Moore finished 18th in the first round of the men’s 400 meter hurdles, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday. Moore finished with a time of 52.63.

Morgan Zacharias finished 13th in the women’s pole vault, clearing 4.10m (13-5¼). Zacharias just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships – the top 12 advanced for the regional. Oliver Newport was also close, finishing 14th in the men’s long jump. Newport finished with a jump of 7.43m (24-4½ ).

Bre’Yana Wash finished 26th in the long jump with a mark of 6.00m (19-8¼). Freshman Alexis Gibbons finished 28th with a jump of 5.99m (19-8). Gwen Shaw finished 33rd in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.52.

Cyerra Cassell finished 36th in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 53.90m (176-10). Senior Dolly Nyemah finished with a throw of 53.44m (175-4) for 39th place.

Calvin Chemoiywo wrapped up the night with a 24th place finish in the 10,000 meter run. He finished with a time of 30:44.01.
