The University of Louisville’s 23rd-ranked duo of senior Sean Donohue and freshman Parker Wynn fell 6-3, 6-4 to Oklahoma’s 15th-ranked Spencer Papa and Andrew Harris in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship Thursday afternoon the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
“For most of the match it was even except for a break in each set,” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “They won a no-ad point on both sets to get up a break and held all the way through. Oklahoma was so relaxed, probably because these were key players who helped them play in two NCAA Tournament team finals. They served hard to our bodies and put a lot of first serves in. It doesn’t take any feelings away from how proud I am of Sean and Parker. If you told me a year ago that we would end this year’s season at the NCAA Championships, I would have taken that in a second. I’m so happy that Sean ended his career at the NCAA Team Regional and NCAA Doubles Championships. This was really important to me that he experienced these great events.”
The Louisville tandem capped an impressive 2017 campaign with a 25-8 overall record and a 19-7 mark as the Cardinals’ No. 1 team. They appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings eight times, reaching as high as No. 22 and became the seventh NCAA doubles selection in program history.
As a team, UofL finished the 2017 season with a 22-10 overall record after earning the program’s 12th NCAA bid and advancing to the finals of the Columbus Regional.
