UK Baseball’s Roland Fanning Assistant Coach of Year Candidate

Ø  Coached Kentucky’s outfielders, bunting and base running

Ø  Helped sophomore Tristan Pompey become an All-American and First-Team All-SEC player

o   Pompey improved from a .233 hitter as a freshman to .361 as a sophomore

o   Pompey’s 96 hits are the third most in a single-season in Kentucky history

o   Pompey scored 70 runs, tied for the third most in a season

o   Pompey’s 46 walks tied for the fifth most in a season

o   Pompey had 28 extra base hits and slugged 100 points better as a sophomore

Ø  Fanning has now coached an All-America outfielder at each of four coaching stops

Ø  For the second straight season an outfielder under Fanning’s tutelage was recognized as at least a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Breakout Player of the Year Award

Ø  Kentucky stole 63 bases on the season and routinely took the extra base, putting pressure on opposing defenses

Ø  The Wildcats had two players finish in top four on UK’s single-season sacrifice bunt list

Ø  Kentucky’s outfielders made just seven errors in 347 chances (64 games) this season

Ø  Fanning also is UK’s recruiting coordinator and has led the charge on Top 20 recruiting classes for both 2017 and 2018
