Clayton Portz, who played golf for Northern Kentucky University from 2012-16, has qualified for The Greenbrier Classic and will participate in his first PGA Tour event at the Old White TPC Course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Portz tees off at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 6 on Hole No. 1. He’s paired with Steven Alker and Jonathan Byrd.

To earn a start in the Greenbrier, Portz carded a two-under 69 on the Cobb Course at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia, on Monday. Y.E. Yang, the 2009 PGA Championship winner, finished one stroke ahead of Portz to win the qualifier.

The Old White TPC Course is familiar territory for Portz, who played there during his senior year at NKU when the Norse participated in the 17-team, 89-player 2016 Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational. Portz posted rounds of 72-79-71.

“Clayton has always been a hardworking, good player who believes in himself,” said head coach Daryl Landrum. “I’m extremely excited for him to earn his first PGA Tour start at the Greenbrier Classic.”

The Golf Channel will air both the first and second rounds from 3-6 p.m. Live scoring is available via the Leaderboard.
