Incoming Murray State freshman women’s golf student-athlete Sarah McDowell carded her career low round and placed second at the Paducah Sun-Florence Paxton Memorial Ladies Golf Championship in Paducah, Kentucky.

McDowell, from Murray, had a 4-under-par 67 in Monday’s first round at Paxton Park Golf Course, before she shot an 84 in Tuesday’s final round at the Country Club of Paducah. McDowell’s 36-hole total of 151 was good for a second place showing.

MSU also had a pair of sophomores in the field as Earlena Sheets placed third at 153 and Charli Jo Doss was eighth at 173. Her sister, Teri, who plays at Mississippi State was the winner at 144.

In about a month, the Racers will begin fall qualifying in preparation for the 2017-18 season as head coach Velvet Milkman enters her 25th season. The only coach the Racers have ever had has the team coming off a tremendous 2016-17 season which featured the program’s 10th Ohio Valley Conference title and fifth NCAA appearance.

The Racers begin the fall portion of the 2017-18 season (Sept. 11-12) at the Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo.
