Former Murray State men’s golf student-athletes, the Newcomb brothers, turned in good finishes Thursday at the 98th Kentucky Open at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville.

Nick and Patrick were on the Racers’ 2010 Ohio Valley Conference championship team, when Nick was a senior and Patrick was a freshman. Together, the Newcomb brothers won three OVC Player of the Year awards with Nick in 2010 and Patrick in 2012 and 2013.

At the Kentucky Open, Patrick Newcomb placed third on scores of 72-71-65=208, while Nick Newcomb placed fifth on scores of 68-71-70=209. The winner was Cooper Musselman on scores of 69-70-67=206.

2016 Racer senior Duncan McCormick recently turned professional and carded scores of 73-80-77=230 to place 65th.

Current Racer sophomore Cole Manion qualified for the event but missed the cut on scores of 80-84=164.

The Kentucky Open has a professional and an amateur division.
