Two former Eastern Kentucky University golfers will play in the 63rd U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. Dave Ryan and Roc Irey will participate in the championship on August 26-31 at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis.
Ryan and Irey played for the Colonels in the early 1970s.
Ryan won the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship last year at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis. He recorded the third known hole-in-one on a USGA championship par-4 hole in a 20-hole victory over two-time champion Paul Simson.
Ryan received an exemption for this year’s event after winning last year’s title. Irey tied for second at the qualifying event held at Panther Valley Golf & Country Club in Allamuchy, New Jersey.
The Minikahda Club opened in 1907 and will play to 6,793 yards with a par of 72. The course hosted the U.S. Open in 1916, the U.S. Amateur in 1927 and the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1988.
The field will include 156 players. Two rounds of stroke play on August 26 and 27 will narrow the field to a 64-player match play tournament. The championship match is scheduled for August 31.
