The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team defeated visiting Marshall, 2-1, in its first exhibition of the preseason on Wednesday evening at EKU Soccer Field.

Sophomore midfielder Marian Wolski – a 2016 OVC All-Newcomer Team member – got the Colonels on the board early, scoring off a cross from senior Jordan Foster in the 20th minute.

Foster – a 2016 first team All-OVC forward – took matters into her own hands in the 37th minute, dribbling around two Marshall defenders and firing a goal into the upper left corner of the goal.

That goal proved to be key, as Marshall’s Canaan Booton rebounded her own shot and scored in the 80th minute to cut into EKU’s advantage.

The Colonels, however, regrouped and held on over the final 10 minutes of play to record the victory.

Foster and Booton led all players in the game with four shots apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Anna Hall – a 2016 second team All-OVC selection – did not allow a goal in her 60 minutes of action.

Nineteen Colonels saw the field in the exhibition win.

EKU will host Indiana State in another exhibition on Saturday at 4 p.m. before opening the regular season next Friday night, August 18, at Northern Kentucky.
