The duo of Ramon van Flymen and Parth Aggarwal led the way for the Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team this weekend at the Greater Cincinnati Invitational.

The two paired up to go 1-1 in doubles play and each posted 2-1 marks in the singles portion of the competition.

“The biggest bright spot for the men this weekend was that Ramon van Flymen played like a true veteran, winning 2-of-3 super tiebreakers to clinch victories,” explained Head Coach Rob Oertel. “He’s a senior and he handled it as such. We expect a lot of leadership from him.”

Drew Akins from Duquesne was the first to face van Flymen, but was edged by the Oosthuizen, Netherlands native in the super match, (10-4), after winning the first, 6-4, and falling in the second, 3-6. He moved on to face Xavier’s Brett Winters, defeating him 4-6, 6-1, (10-4).

In the semi-final round van Flymen squared off against Dayton’s Zach Berry, falling 7-6, 0-6, (11-9).

In Aggarwal’s first round of the day he made quick work of Northern Kentucky’s Jorge Rodriguez Agudo, 6-2, 6-2. He kept the momentum going by picking up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jared Isaacs of Duquesne. Aggarwal went up 1-0 to Lorenzo Rollhauser of Dayton with a score of 6-3, but Rollhauser struck back taking the next set 6-3 and the super-match (10-5).
