Kentucky Men’s Tennis Begins Season at Three Tournaments

The Kentucky men’s tennis team will begin fall play this weekend at three different tournaments throughout the country. UK will send representatives to the Oracle ITA Masters, the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic and the Gator Ranked +1 Invite.
Ninth-ranked Will Bushamuka will compete at the Oracle ITA Masters, one of the most prestigious fall tournaments. Bushamuka will face Alexandr Cozbinov of UNLV at 3 p.m. ET today at the Malibu Racquet Club. The men’s singles champion earns automatic entry into the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which will be held November 1-5, in Palm Desert, California. The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships replaces the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. You can read more about the creation of the new fall event here.
Three Cats – No. 42 Ryo Matsumura, Austin Hussey and Gus Benson – will compete in the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic on the campus of the University of Louisiana at the Culotta Tennis Center. Matsumura is the No. 1 seed in flight one and will face Jackson Cobb of Texas Tech on Friday at 9:30 p.m. Benson will take on the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Jurence Mendoza, no earlier than 11:30 p.m. tomorrow. Matsumura and Hussey will team up in doubles and will play the duo of Eleftherios Theodorou and Artur Dubinski at 8:30 a.m.
No. 62 Trey Yates, No. 98 Enzo Wallart and Jake Stefanik will compete in the Gator Ranked +1 Invitational beginning tomorrow. Yates is the No. 4 seed in the tournament while Wallart is No. 7. Yates will compete at 11:30 a.m. on court 12 against Bar Botzer of Wake Forest. In the same draw, Wallart will play Nico Rouanet of Louisville at 10:30 a.m. on court four. In the second draw, Stefanik will face Gabriel Freiedrich of USC around 11:30 a.m.
