Freshman Matthias Schmid shot a 6-under par 136 to lead the University of Louisville men’s golf team to a seventh place finish after two rounds at the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club.

Competing against one of the nation, the Cardinals shot a 6-under par 278-284=562, but are 15 shots behind No. 7 Kentucky at 21-under par. Arkansas is lurking at 17-under, while Ohio State (-14), Mississippi State (-13) and No. 17 Illinois (-12) round out the top five.

Louisville will tee off Tuesday morning at 8:35 a.m., pairing with Cincinnati and Michigan State.

Schmid, who finished fourth in his first collegiate event last week, fired 12 birdies over the first two rounds is tied for eighth after firing 66-70=136.

Junior Simon Zach finds himself in the top 15 after a 1-under par 70 in the morning round and a 2-under 69 in the afternoon. He stands in 14th place at a combined 3-under par 70-69=139.

Sophomore Trevor Johnson and freshman Hugh O’Hare each shot a 3-under par 147 to finish in a tie for 40th place, while junior Keegan de Lange and senior Nicloas Platret are tied for 49th at 5-under par 147.
