Alex Steigerwald and Nyomi Devine of the Murray State soccer team have been named as adidas OVC Players of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Steigerwald earns her first OVC Goalkeeper of the Week award of the 2017 season, after coming up big with two shutout against Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. The junior made nine saves combined in the two matches. “She had a really good weekend. I’m happy that she gets some recognition,” said coach Jeremy Groves.
Devine was named OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week along with Lauren Kaempfe of Southeast Missouri. Devine played all 200 minutes of action last week against Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State, not allowing the opposing offenses any quality chances to be put on net. “She’s been playing great for us the last four years and it’s great to see her earn this,” said Groves.
The Racers host Southeast Missouri and UT Martin this week at Cutchin Field. MSU will open the two-game homestand with the Redhawks Thursday at 3 p.m., followed by the Skyhawks, Sunday at 2 p.m.
