The Murray State women’s golf team began play in their season opening event Monday with a spot in second place through 36 holes at the Payne Stewart Memorial at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Missouri.

The Racers posted scores of 297-298=595 in the event hosted by Missouri State, as the Racers were chasing leader Memphis who posted rounds of 293-287=580.

MSU’s Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was the Racers’ top player in the first two rounds with a spot in fifth place on rounds of 75-72=147. Moa Folke was in ninth place on scores of 73-75=148, while Linette Holmslykke was in 12th position after scores of 73-76=149. Raeysha Surendran was in 34th place after scores of 76-77=153, with Jane Watts in 46th place on scores of 80-75=155.

After Memphis and Murray State, the rest of the top five teams included UTEP (600), Louisiana-Monroe (601) and Wichita State (604).

Belen Amoros Benet and Anna Moore are playing the event as individuals. The freshman Benet was in 17th place and first among the 19 solo players in the field after scores of 75-75=150. Moore was in 34th place overall on scores of 79-74=153.

The Racers will be paired with the leader Memphis and UTEP on Tuesday. The final round begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
