The Murray State women’s golf team brought home the championship of the Chris Banister Golf Classic for the second-straight year when they won the title by 10 shots Tuesday at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Alabama.
The Racers posted an event record round of 287 in the first round and ended the event with rounds of 287-304-307=898, which bested host Jacksonville State who recorded team scores of 305-302-301=908. Morehead State (928)placed third, with Tennessee Tech (930) and UAB (930) making up the top-5 squads.
Linette Holmslykke paced a Racer team that produced some great play over the 54-holes with four of their eight players in the top-10. Holmslykke placed third on rounds of 74-75-71=220, while Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria was fourth after scores of 67-79-75=221. Both Holmslykke and Puente Rodriguez de Austria were honored on the All-Tournament Team. MSU’s Moa Folke placed ninth on scores of 76-72-81=229, while Raeysha Surendran placed 17th after rounds of 76-78-80=234 and Jane Watts in 20th place on rounds of 70-80-85=235.
MSU’s Anna Moore led the field of five individuals in the field with a seventh place finish after she carded scores of 75-74-77=226, while Belen Amoros Benet placed 40th on scores of 77-89-87=253.
MSU is off to a good start with a second place showing (Sept. 12) at the Payne Stewart Memorial and now a win this week in Alabama.
Next, the Racers compete at the Kentucky Invitational (Oct. 6-8) at the UK University Club in Lexington.
