Olivia Cason fired a 1-under-par 71 on Monday at the Golfweek Women’s Conference Challenge, leading the Louisville women’s golf team to 10th through one round of play in Vail, Colo.

The Cardinals collectively shot an 11-over-par 299 at the Red Sky Golf Club and sit 10 strokes back from San Diego State, the clubhouse leader the event’s reigning champion. The Fazio Course provided its share of challenges throughout the day, with the 90-player field averaging a 4-over-par score.

Cason, one of only 12 players to shoot under par, is tied for seventh. The junior totaled three birdies over the 18 holes to earn her third round of the season even or below par.

Lauren Hartlage, who is tied for 39th, carded a 3-over-par 75. The sophomore had a solid opening nine holes, shooting a 1-under-par, but went 4-over-par at the turn. She also recorded three birdies on the day.

Kristin Engle, tied for 44th, and Molly Skapik, tied for 50th, round out the team’s top four scores. Engle, playing in her second event with the Cardinals, tallied a 4-over-par 76, while Skapik totaled a 5-over-par 77.

Louisville returns to action for the second of the three-day event on Tuesday. The Cardinals, paired with Arizona and Coastal Carolina, start teeing off at noon ET from hole No. 10.
